Ok Twitter, I've made a thing. You can now follow for papers related to (mostly) copper biochemistry & microbiology. Apologies to human/plant peeps. I have yet to figure out a good search filter for those papers... but lemme know if you wanna help. Please RT.

"Sadly, like many prejudices, we often wait for change to come with the next generation and then it doesn’t. Unless we now make a concerted effort, things will remain the same." Great piece from on the survey.

Our new paper with evidence that microbial production of extracellular superoxide is a global oxygen sink. This was a really fun thought exercise. Looking forward to expanding on this with more data and modeling.

“What’s the mechanism?” can be a really ridiculous question. When a truly novel observation is made, almost by definition, the mechanism is unknown (and what qualifies as a “mechanism”?). Asking scientists to wait YEARS before sharing an exciting observation is irresponsible.

My partner and I never baby talk to our kids. We give them freshly autoclaved LB and incubate overnight at 30°C with shaking 🦠 My son is 24 hr old and has already reached an optical density (590 nm) of 2.5. My daughter is 18 hr old and can be spread onto new LB-agar plates.

So, at dinner the other day, mentioned that there might be a market for ASMR laboratory skills videos, eg. multichannel pipetting of a coloured dilution series. (No, we are not weird, I swear!) So, Twitter, please tell me that such a thing already exists!!
