Work is a linear process and learning produces exponential improvements to your work. You shouldn't pressure yourself to work faster since it will come naturally with more experience.

Very true

I'm in the same space, I'm at least 4x as slow as the other devs at work. I'm very competitive and being slow drives me nuts
-
Same!! I have to fight all my instincts to remind myself its ok, slowdown, be patient...

I think people too easily forget that dev is unlike most other jobs. In other jobs you'll get 2-3h of training and then left to your own devices. In dev, training time ranges from 20-60% of your work for the day, every day.

Such a good point! Way different from other jobs

I’m feeling this in a big way right now after switching back into dev life after four years as a manager of devs. Learning a new company, new environment, new codebase… being patient with myself is a challenge.

I agree - in tech, everyday is a day to learn something new. The primary skill of a "good" programmer is the ability to learn. Even when you think you know all the things, there's still more. Speed is secondary to that and also a result of it - your pace will improve in time.
