Anticipating this, I’ve been shifting my news reading back to RSS feeds. It‘a been surprisingly hard: many publishers don’t support RSS anymore, having become completely dependent on social media to distribute stories. Will be interesting Twitter feeds disappear next Wek.

FT style guide change just announced: "data" is now always singular, eg "The data shows that" rather than "the data show that".
A red-letter day. I've been tiresomely banging on about this for decades. For anyone opposed, I'd like to know what your agendum is.

Not good news for China.
New study shows that once hospitalised, Omicron is no less lethal than the original strain that emerged in Wuhan.
In other words: the observed reduction in in-hospital severity seen in other countries was due to immunity, which many in China don’t have.
Quote Tweet
Confirmation that Omicron isn't in fact milder than ancestral lineage (though milder than Delta), so apparent mildness is clearly due to immunity rather than viral evolution to be less virulent.
