This is awful. I would like to hear some follow up. What is the justification for this (someone must have come up with something.....)? What is going to be done about it? This sends an awful message to youngsters that gender determines worth

I watched the 2001 ASP World Tour at Bells Beach. The Men’s events were loudspeaker commentated and the men towed out to their waves behind jet skis. They turned off both the loudspeakers and the jet skis for the complementary Women’s events. I was appalled.

How much money does Billabong make from viewers watching surfing? I'd reckon far more $ get spent by women buying Billabong branded merch, so there seems zero argument to be paying young athletes so differently.
