I've heard that argument before, and it basically boils down to "no used to mean yes." GEE I WONDER HOW WE GOT RAPE CULTURE

No it boils down to “sometimes men and women who are attracted to one another flirt playfully with each other” Also “she wanted to say yes to begin with but in society at the time was expected to be chaste”

So then, at best, the song is a relic of a bygone era. And I say, let it stay there.

No, because people still flirt. Just because no one does with you isn’t a reason to leave something “in the past” or even consider it a relic. It’s a fun song if you stop listening while trying to find any reason to be offended by it

What are you on about? You might want to look into why you interpret coy flirtation as sexually predatory. It just highlights ignorance, inexperience and extremism.

The only person who knows for sure if it's coy flirtation is the one doing it. The person on the receiving end had better not be wrong about it. That's a gamble I'd rather not take.

The person on the other end can absolutely be wrong about it. Mixed signals happen, all the time. You can’t win ‘em all over, and you can’t win anyone over without trying.

You’re welcome to not take the gamble, you’ll eventually blame women for your lack of romantic experience and become an incel spewing hate and resentment because you rejected literally the oldest and most well established social practice as predatory

That's oddly specific. Are you trying to tell me something?
