I think that is a great first step. We can see how it goes from there. Even these modest steps would greatly reduce the harm to drug users and society by the use of illicit drugs.

A great first step would be SF prosecuting the open dealing of fentanyl. It would immediately save many lives

So are alcohol, tobacco, and many legal drugs. Fentanyl is no more or less likely to kill you than these drugs, when dispensed properly. Prohibition is the problem, not the drug itself.

An estimated 95,000 people (approximately 68,000 men and 27,000 women) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third-leading preventable cause of death in the United States. The first is tobacco, and the second is poor diet and physical inactivity.

I agree. My mom died from smoking 3 packs a day. She had a stroke — her carotid arteries were 98 and 99 percent blocked. Doc said “You’re going to have to quit smoking.” And she said, “I’m gonna smoke.” She had a second stroke that night and went into a coma.

Sorry to hear that. I have also had several relatives with heart disease thanks to smoking
