There is no real difference between “hard” and “soft” drugs except their legal status and societal acceptance. Alcohol kills far more than fentanyl. Mushrooms and acid are mostly harmless but are considered “hard” drugs. In Amsterdam all drugs are tolerated.
More people OD on alcohol every year than all other drugs combined. Tobacco kills the most. There is no rhyme or reason why certain drugs are legal and others are not. It is mostly cultural, it has nothing to do with how dangerous they are.

In Amsterdam, they had an epidemic of heroin ODs in the 70s. They decriminalized usage, forced druggies into rehab, and if you failed rehab enough times you get free medical-grade heroin supplied by The State. Drug-related crime and ODs have dropped to almost zero.
