In fact the headline itself is just posing the question. Do you “think” the San Francisco Chronicle’s reporting is responsible for over one thousand deaths of small children? Well, there’s no evidence of that, but I’m just “objectively” posing the question.

Respectfully - I don't see any evidence for that. The best argument may be that the data is different than the Zeitgeist (which I contend with, and I know you don't), but almost every one of my progressive friends 'feels' that crime is higher, at the minimum.

When have retailers closed stores early or altogether, citing crime? When has a retailer threatened the city to move out of their flagship location if they don't do anything about shoplifting. When have we ever seen videos like the Neiman Marcus bag incident?
