People can read numbers. People can read the news. The worst part is the 700 OD dead last year, which happened because @chesaboudin can’t jail drug dealers for fear of traumatizing them. Also, watch how the mayor, the supes, and Progressives do absolutely nothing about it.

Continuing - Elected DA Boudin has asked for task force on fentanyl that would devote more prosecutors to fentanyl drug crime at its root. Public Defender opposes more prosecution understandably wanting all $ to go to treatment.https://www.davisvanguard.org/2021/03/sfda-chesa-boudin-seeks-2-3-million-fentanyl-task-force-sfpd-mano-raju-firmly-opposed-to-proposal/ …

It'll take months and years to hunt the big fish down. In the meantime, addicts die by the score in our city, and we just stand by and feel good about ourselves b/c we give drug dealers carte blanche since they supposedly had a difficult childhood. How does that make sense?

No cart blanche for drug dealers, just a smart understanding of the situation. Difficult childhood comment is unnecessary and callous. However long it takes to stop drug crime someone has to start, that someone is focused persistent unflappable DA Boudin-elected. #StandWithChesa

What is callous is Progressives such as you having more sympathy for pushers than for their victims. Re Boudin. I don’t even condemn him personally. And I do believe he is a very troubled person given his background, and that it informs his policies, which hurt our city.

I’m concerned that locked-up drug dealers are endlessly replaced by trafficked drug dealers. When it becomes clear that treatment and prosecuting root cause ends street addiction, it’s callous/arrogant to focus only on trafficked drug dealers. Lives are at stake. #StandWithChesa

Who is a “victim” of a drug dealer? Maybe the person who lives with the nuisance in their neighborhood. Not the addict.

No one forces someone to inject poison into their veins. Shooting up fentanyl is a choice, and a bad one. 50-80 of addicts in their 20s and 30s decide to become clean within a decade, without treatment. Calling them victims infantilizes them and removes their agency.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/can-you-cure-yourself-of-addiction/ … But some in the field point out that many if not most addicts successfully recover without professional help.

A survey by Gene Heyman, a research psychologist at McLean Hospital in Massachusetts, found that between 60 to 80 percent of people who were addicted in their teens and 20s were substance-free by their 30s, and they avoided addiction in subsequent decades.

Other studies on Vietnam War veterans suggest that the majority of soldiers who became addicted to narcotics overseas later stopped using them without therapy.
