The concepts for the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) are merely greenwashing. Expanding the highway and partially covering it with a park doubles down on our past mistakes. Who would want to enjoy a park that's level with a double-decker freeway?

Today, the Adams administration is hosting a meeting regarding the BQE. The administration is excluding leaders who want to keep the freeway at 2 lanes, instead of the 3 lanes that the administration hopes to expand it to.

Mayor Adams is hosting a blatantly political meeting at City Hall today with 20+ Brooklyn District Leaders and other elected officials to foment opposition to a two lane solution for the Triple Cantilever. brooklyneagle.com/articles/2023/

One of the designers involved in the project was trying to convince me at the public workshop that overpasses and "public spaces" underneath them like this were actually pretty cool and that's when I knew I couldn't trust these people
On paper, I like the idea of opening up this area & being able walk through it as opposed to walking along the perimeter, but we don't need more ramps and overpasses here. Plus, who the heck is going to want to hang out in a space that is literally being chocked by highways??
