The concepts for the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) are merely greenwashing. Expanding the highway and partially covering it with a park doubles down on our past mistakes. Who would want to enjoy a park that's level with a double-decker freeway?

And just to clarify, please stop referring to the expansion of highway on/off ramps by public housing as a "park project." This literally couldn't be further from the truth.

Today, the Adams administration is hosting a meeting regarding the BQE. The administration is excluding leaders who want to keep the freeway at 2 lanes, instead of the 3 lanes that the administration hopes to expand it to.

it’s already a highway next to a park and the park and promenade are packed all the time. It’s nyc - no one is expecting peace and quiet. Just happy that the waterfront is a public space and the highway is pushed more inside and away

I’m sorry but this is the best it will get. The BQE is essential to NYC and removing it would put all of its traffic into Brooklyn and Queens itself. So covering such a road with greenery and trees, connecting people and park, is much better than leaving it like it currently is.

This has real Alaskan Way Viaduct vibes, which Seattle spent decades and billions of dollar to undo.

Yea, I am not going to go against this design or those who vote for it. and DOT spokesperson are already against it. I want this project to succeed, as it is a compromise.
I'm curious. Is this part of the plan to build walls or berms to keep rising ocean levels out of New York City?
