Btw this dance is called Champeta and it is originated in Shakira’s hometown of Branquilla Colombia! It’s respected for its footwork and it’s an important part of Colombian culture

It does look a LOT like pantsula (dance from South Africa)

I was thinking that s. African too. But wasn't completely sure but it looks like a dance I saw that was similar. Since enslaved Africans were a mix of many ethnic groups and territories it is most likely a mix.

Actually no. It has influence but the dance and music is 100% from Cartagena. I lived and studied there so I can confirm this.

Yes, indeed. We survived slavery, and still retained so much of our dances, language and traditions from Africa.

It makes me so happy to see it. Being from Texas I grew up with Latinx from many different Latin countries including of course Mexico and it was the one thing that I admired. How you all retained those traditions despite slavery and separation.
