There are just some businesses that need to close. Propping those businesses up that can't thrive anymore by refusing to adapt does much more harm to models that don't need as much maintenance. It's much cheaper and easier on the environment to build solar farms. Coal's gotta go

These politicians know environmental stuff scares the shit out of fossil fuel workers-some of the only decent jobs left-and makes them oppose costly legislation. They're giving themselves an out to not piss off their donors with burdensome regulations

I'm no ivy league lawyer but if the Dems at least put a strong if perfunctory green new deal+federal jobs training and placement on the negotiating table they might win good will, instead of starting negotiations so rightwing it makes Rothbard blush
