It's telling when someone wants to see forgiving a bigot entirely from the bigot's perspective, but it's not in a vacuum. It's not just the question of "is forgiveness good?" it's actually "is forgiveness better than the safety, trust, and emotional resources of *the wronged*?"

Exactly this. Realizing that a lot of these people's political opinions are centered entirely within their whiteness makes those opinions a lot easier to understand.

A guy named "Dr. Genocide" probably shouldn't be allowed to join the superheroes, no. No matter if he has seen the errors of his ways. And that does extend down to all levels. Cause letting a former bad guy join your group of good guys, shit all over his former victims.
