If ONLY narrative, sound design, camera-movement, actor-performance, scene-direction and music placement were ALSO component parts of filmmaking and film analysis! [sigh...]https://twitter.com/benedict_rs/status/1231045311377920000 …

Now let's look at the image KEVIN SMITH HELD UP AS DIVINE ART. The hammer, which should be the focus, is lost in the muddy, distracting background. My eye is drawn instead to... some shiny clouds far off in the distance. Great job. What story does this composition tell? Nothing. pic.twitter.com/todzUdD4O4

Pft, there you go again Bob, analysing films like they were movies that move and have several ways to impart information, OBVIOUSLY all movies are judged on if a random frame picked at random follows the same rules taught in a first-year art history class, that's how you do film!

We give CinemaSins and TVTropes grief for ruining how we discuss cinema, but it’s worth mentioning how One Perfect Shot has warped how we view cinematography.

Even if you disregard all that (which would be ludicrous), since the hammer is the focus of the shot leading up, that the REVEAL that it's Cap and not Thor, is the focus, and wouldja look at that, Chris Evans' mug right there clear as day

People are wired to look for faces, so unless Steve's face is basically too dark to see and the focal point of the previous shot wasn't too far from the left side of the screen, this shouldn't be distracting. Also, everything you said.

If the people involved in these theme-park rides understood all the elements you just referenced and used them to create something more than just long-form babytalk commercials designed to comfort nauseating morons, then its still images would reflect something greater. They dont

i don't remember if this scene is a push in or a zoom, but either way the camera doesn't stop until Cap here is filling the entire screen.

Ah but obviously this is ruined by this selectively chosen intermediate frame that we couldn't properly compute with our *reads reply tweets from op* lizard brains 😂
