None of this is new of course. The military also released prisoners and incited engineered distrust and mob violence in 1988. So far, the crowd have been able to detain the strangers in their neighborhoods, but the threat of more extreme violence is there.

According to knowledgeable sources the internet will be shut off from 1 am to 9 am tonight. Tanks were also spotted rolling into downtown Yangon earlier in the evening.

I just saw videos from a source (can't share the video because the location would be too identifiable) of 4 personnel carriers with dozens of what looks like soldiers in each vehicle. The coup has largely not seen military in the streets, just police. Things are escalating.

For those wondering how some people managed to stay online, shows some connectivity. So there is internet in certain places; those on the borders can connect using foreign cell towers; and roaming works for some foreign sim cards.

I saw these two outside of the Myanmar Business Bank. I was struck by how young and vulnerable some of the "security forces" can be. This system does violence to us all, and even to those holding the guns.

Also, Myanmar people come in all phenotypes, you racists. Both of these men are Myanmar and I'm really horrified by all the people spreading unsubstantiated and racist rumors about China sending foot soldiers to Myanmar. Don't let (understandable) fear lead you to racism.
