The brutal consequences of Lyft and Ubers business model were made clear during this pandemic—w no benefits, min wage, unemployment insurance, sick pay, or adequate PPE—workers were at risk and taxpayers had to step in and pay for these benefits. It’s unfair, wrong and dangerous.

Earlier this year we held hearing, conducted survey of drivers—results showed exploitation, lack of PPE, dangerous conditions, brutally long hours, a lack of protection and benefits, little to no regulation, fueling economic inequality. Stand with @GigWorkersRise #NoOnProp22

I represent the HQs of @Uber and @lyft. I believe they can grow and thrive here. But they should follow the law. Period. All their employees, whether engineers or drivers, deserve worker’s compensation, unemployment benefits like all workers, not a 100 million dollar PR campaign.

I represent many Lyft and Uber workers—whether engineers, sales, HR, tech, or drivers—I stand with them and their rights to fair compensation, fair treatment, protection, and benefits. We aren’t against Lyft or Uber employees in any way, we are FOR them, ALL OF THEM. #NoOnProp22

you represent many uber and lyft drivers. did you actually TALK to any of them? they don't want to be uber/lyft employees. they want to freelancer for uber AND lyft in order to supplement their income. switching between the apps as they wish throughout the day.

They can still "switch between the apps" as employees. They can still have flexible work schedules. Employment doesn't preclude any of those things. Those are straw man arguments.

I wish that Uber had gone ahead with switching off their app in CA anyway, just so you could have seen how the majority of the city: passengers AND drivers really feel about this. focus on the REAL problems that SF has, which are causing everyone to leave

Thanks for the advice. Very focused on the real problems, which would include the massive inequality and vulnerability of people who work in gig economy, during a plague, many of whom live in my district and all of whom interact with people in my district.

um a lot of people are unemployed and can’t get a job right now. driving for Uber, doing jobs on Thumbtack is one of the few ways that they can actually make money right now. maybe try focusing on the drug dealers in your district and people using the street as a public toilet:https://twitter.com/theSamParr/status/1239746193992769536 …

There are always 20ish drug dealers in downtown SF around 7th and market. Will the new SF curfew finally be the thing that gets them outta there? Just trying to find the upside. pic.twitter.com/7teApCIs0c

I am focused on those issues as well. I live here. Thanks for the advice and photos, Jack Smith. Nobody is saying people shouldn't work for those companies. They should, and also get sick pay, workers compensation, PPE, health care, living wage, and unemployment insurance

I lived in your district. I moved last month due to the drug dealers/users. I own a biz. Moved it to Texas. Millions of tax revenue out the door. There are many more like me. Jacks one of them. Your constituents are telling you the problems. Fix them.

I assumed office a year and a half ago. I appreciate your faith that I have the ability to "fix" drug use. We have over 20,000 people addicted here. It is a national issue, an illness, that has worsened. Ive fought for solutions on drugs as much as any elected in long time in SF.

I'm always happy to learn and listen though, and to share with you what I have done. You can google my name & drugs and you'll see a lot I've done. But as local legislator in SF, who does not run Exec Branch, police or DA's office, how do you recommend i "fix drug dealing/use"?

I ran for office bc of anger at status quo, to work w my neighbors for big changes. I live on Hyde St. Theres no overnight solution for single legislator to fix endemic issue of "drug dealing/use", during plague. But I work tirelessly on them. This is my home. Good luck in Texas.

that’s a great motivation to run. But I won’t applaud “achievements” that include bogus anti-business laws, which are exactly the status quo for SF supervisors. i hate to think how even more extreme things would have been had London Breed has lost to your predecessor Jane Kim
