The Thiel Fellowship gives $100k to 25 kids a year to drop out of college and start a company. This morning a Thiel Fellowshow recipient (now 25 years old) just sold a self-driving car startup he started with his $100k for $3.4 billion at age 18. Hell yeah.

People say college is unnecessary bc “the internet”— while we can’t even read the linked article without paying. Our system is really good at identifying value and then making people pay for it. Still need public investment in education for students of all abilities and means.

"People say college is unnecessary bc “the internet”— while we can’t even read the linked article without paying." I don't get the connection. What does college/the internet have to do with providing a service and getting paid for it?

Here is a link which doesn’t require paid access: https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2020/08/24/luminar-technologies-to-go-public-in-24b-merger.html … I think the program results are misleading and do not do justice to benefits of formal education.
