I know it’s “uncool” to buy a house, but I want what I want and I don’t want anyone telling me i have to leave at a certain time. Also, I have always made money, although I acknowledge it’s mostly luck.

DUDE! I think it's cool. And I will do it. I''m just saying justifying it as a great investment is mostly dumb. Everyone gets so butt hurt about this!

Wha wha. It's just a reflection of your age. IF one purchased a home in the right location, right time/price, a LOT of average Joes came out way ahead. If you're a nomad + like living day to day in other people's homes with one pair of clothes. Well maybe--enjoy your trip.

If you paid put down $50k in 1979 for a home in Missouri vs putting into stocks - which do you think would be higher?

I don't look at the WHOLE property as an investment. I look at the difference between what I'd pay for rent and the total monthly house price (you have to include any down payment there, too). THAT is the investment. Currently, it's cheaper to buy a house :)

What about the opportunity cost?
