Then maybe those rich people were never poor? I remember having to overturn couch cushions looking for change, so I could buy groceries for my wife & babyboy (& cooking them dinner with whatever I could cobble together). Goddamn, I love having money. And I worked hard for it.

There's some survival bias there. If there weren't pumped to be rich, they could give away their money and embrace a non-super-rich lifestyle and wouldn't be caught in your sample :)

I’ve met one guy who was legitimately depressed by his wealth. Deeply contemplated giving it all up to run a comic book store in the Midwest... Surprise: he didn’t.
