Just spoke with my dr. She works a lot with homeless and addicts. She said since covid started, SF homeless have been given hotel rooms - they've seen a massive uptick in drug overdoses. Her hypothesis: hotel rooms made it easier to do drugs and easier to be lonely.

I get that on a personal level but as a whole, we see drug abusers as bad people who make bad decisions. We don’t talk about diabetes or heart disease in that way. By recognizing the disease, we can humanize the individual.

Sure. I few them (us) like obese people. Some people can eat a lot and stay skinny or healthy. Others cannot. If you are the other, you have to make different choices. You're not bad. You just have been dealt that hand. The choice is yours.

The loneliness is key.
@johannhari101 makes the case that loneliness might be a root cause of addiction in his book "Lost Connections."Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
