i think modern technology lends itself to make side hustles a lot more realistically achievable.

Each successive generation has dealt with more instability, greater rate of technological change, and increasing employment and economic insecurity. Would only expect this to rise with following generations.

I don’t know if people focus on side hustles. I have past careers I’m still passionate but outgrew. Ex. I have a pre-rev startup with 14 FT people mid delivery of first product. But I also just put out an EP and sell music for publishing. It would be weird not to do both.

I think it’s an old thing which stopped for one or two generations. It’s the return of the handy man

It would be cool to ask that in your next survey, is your side hustle for extra cash or because you love it?

It’s new relative to older generations due to necessity and opportunity. It’s much simpler to make money on the side today because of technology. But also after the 2008 crash, came the gig economy and worse job opportunity/terms. Today, it’s dumb not to have a side hustle.

I think the older generations have always been ‘side hustlers’ but just didn’t call it that. I know an older mechanic that stays back at his bosses garage to do private work (not overtime, he has his own clients).
