From mid nov 17 to end jan 18, drove from Wash DC to Orlando, then Orlando to Las Vegas. With girlfriend, now wife. I'm from Switzerland, road trip of a lifetime. I thought I knew the US before that, but maaan this was something else.

How about the Bay instead? Lots of space there now w/ the mass exit! Space obviously isn’t the problem and this issue deserves much more nuance - head to the towns in those states ravaged by globalism / the opioid crisis and get their perspective - would be eye opening for you!

Likely not that eye opening, as I was born, raised, and lived in Missouri and Tennessee most my life. Very familiar. Bay Area is wonderful, if they can afford it. We need wonderful people here, too. Just likely easier to do in the super cheap places.

Have you ever seen immigrants in any of those rural places you mentioned? The answer is likely no, because immigrants tend to congregate in big cities where there are jobs. It’s naive to think immigrants would come here and settle in Iowa and not LA

Many are in Iowa and other rural areas. My family’s in the agriculture industry. Massive amounts of Mexican immigrants in Midwest working on farms.
