Let’s get this straight; “Chasing clicks” is not inherently bad. And clickbait, aka outrageous headlines, is also not inherently bad. The NYT and virtually any other pub with more than 30 employees has some1 works on shaping content based on traffic data. And that’s ok.
Here’s a vice headline: Someone Did a Shit So Bad it Grounded a Plane Many would say this is clickbait. And we likely agree Vice isn’t exactly a trustworthy news source. But headlines like that are funny and entertaining. Vice serves that need. No one hurt. And I lol. Win win

Lol got it, so your point is that some clickbait headlines don't hurt others and add value through humor. If headlines misrepresent important information, that's bad. If its harmless and funny that's fine. Its case-by-case, depending on the content.
