      Hi Sam, comparing these clickbait websites with websites like Buzzfeed, Vice and New York Times is comparing apples to oranges. How many pullitzer awards have these clickbait sites won? I have run clickbait sites with insane numbers myself but your comparison is totally wrong

      You are nitpicking on the vice article. I’m sure we both will agree that running a website like New York Times, the business model of driving clicks doesnt work. So the author is right. Investigative journalism costs money. Its not 2 freelancers whipping up bullshit stores in ph.

      1. It does work. Driving clicks does drive subscriptions. go to Facebook ad archive and look at the promoted headlines of any subscription pub. The juicy ones get promoted as they drive more sub rev.

          2. The author is not right. "In 2020, the idea that fishing for “clicks” to drive ad revenue is a successful or even common business model is a fallacy." Is not right. Fishing for click to drive ad revenue is successful in many cases.

          Look. Here are the ads @nytimes is running. They see which stories trends on FB, then promte that paywalled article with $$$ behind it. I wouldn't call it clickbait. But they're all juicy.
