They’re also blocking access to phones their customers have bought from them. Not sure all customers realize the extent to which they play this role in ways beyond protecting from malware

Intuitively when you buy a piece of hardware I think most people expect to be able to install what they choose on it

They don't own the hardware, they sell the hardware. Some may argue they own the app store and should charge whatever they want to run it. That's cool and all, but they also don't allow competing app stores to exist. No competition and arbitrarily setting fees as they wish

IMO Whenever anything becomes popular enough most of society depends on it it should probably be reclassified and regulated as public utility similar to electric and water companies
