Long story short: 1. Both free and paid will always exist. 2. Paid used to thrive more than it does now. But I think it will grow big time in next 5 years

Paid will stay for niche pubs and premium content. But for “news” — the stuff that builds common knowledge — there’s a conflict of interest between publishers and readers that the subscription model does not resolve: - Readers need truth/usefulness - Publishers need profit
