You know what would be cool? If I could buy a used car with my credit card points... With zero travel, I'm stacking these points like crazy.

why can't you just change the points into dollars and then buy the car? the points sound like a big number, but when you actually convert to $ value, often doesn't add up to much

i don't view it as a discount. I think the conversion to cash is the "TRUE" price. and then airlines and stuff pay a premium (i.e. commission) to the credit card companies, to incentivize people to use their points to buy airline tickets.
