I can say with 100% certainty that if we raised an A right now, and I was able to take $1m off the table, that the likelihood of a big outcome becomes much, much more likely.

An average engineer at FANG can make a million in 2-3 years tops. Most founders, especially technical ones, are taking huge pay cuts to start their firms. At some point, when there is traction, it’s understandable they need to sell some shares to pay their bills.

Comparing starting a small business as a pay cut doesn’t seem like the right thing. It’s not like $1m is the baseline.
