That’s not the point here.
@austin_rief isn’t saying only the best should do paid. He’s saying that - if you’re not the best - you shouldn’t *only* produce a paid newsletter. You need free content etc too. Nothing controversial there IMO. -
I just think this is a stupid gate keeping rule. I try my hardest (I fail often) to not make these huge sweeping rules. There are thousands of ways to succeed and achieve a goal.

There’s an argument to made there that if people like it, you are essentially the best in the world for them. The larger point is for folks who are considering charging for emails and not realizing how important the content quality side is.

Andrew Sullivan tried to do it but he quit due to burnout and the cost of maintaining the content. It’s possible but not probable. People want everything for free.
