You advised “just ship something.” What do you think about the advice to build an audience first? Asking for payment only after delivering value free for a long time to build trust. Seems to be contrary tactics.

That’s fair. Question is specifically around paid products like ebooks or video courses. A lot of advice says to build authority/credibility first, and that the way to is that is to help people for free for a long time. “Compress the spring” by delivering value.

While you do this you’re learning about your potential customers and trying out lots of different content. You develop your gut around what people want to hear from you. Certain tweets/posts/videos strike a nerve.
