What's the best place to host a group/community these days?

I'm SHOCKED that people chose Slack. It's garbage for community. Show me 1 good slack community with engagement, and I'll show you 10 more Facebook groups that do the same but better.

It would be interesting to know who voted that also runs successful groups. I have tried them all. I can tell you that if the group is in the hundreds (and definitely if it’s in the thousands), FB is your best option.

THANK YOU. I have to fight people about this. "let's create a community on slack!" It sounds so good. Like "Your sales page has too much copy, make it shorter!" But in my experience, it rarely works well in practice.

I think there’s a belief that FB is “old” and “uncool”...except that’s where all the people with money are all day long, even if they aren’t willing to admit it.

Yes. It is old. And it is uncool. Like Craigslist. But it's f-ing effective. Like Craigslist.
