It's almost like people actually change their minds when given more data on a particular subject.
Yeah, but that doesn't happen. Trump said he could murder a guy in public and people would still love him. New data -> same outcome. That's a cult.

So Trump *can't* change his mind but De Blasio can. I do think his support is pretty cultish, but I don't think this is a particularly compelling argument against him. There are better examples.

I didn't mention De Blasio. I am just pointing out that Trump acknowledged that pretty profound data (him killing a person in public) would not change people's mind (his supports would STILL support him). So, don't think your point works in practice.
