Founder: stupid glamorous title that sounds great when times are booming. If it doesn’t work, job at FB! SMB owner: you’re fuckimg livelihood. There are no bailouts. This HAS to work or my family doesn’t eat and I’ve screwed anyone who lent me money to start. This isn’t a game.
I just think more “founders” need to be cockroaches. It feels like now it’s a bunch of rich dorks playing startup and the game is over and they wanna play a diff game.
Also if you’re a VC and refer to the owner of the company that you invested in as “my founders”, you might be soft as cream cheese.
Love this. I feel same way about "CEO" title. People put it in their Twitter bio/@ and think it means they sit on a mountain top calling shots. Title should really be "executive assistant to EVERYONE else at the company"

Surely the main distinction is that a founder created their business, whereas a small business owner may not have. Not always a useful distinction, but often.

I agree. There’s a reason I call myself a partner at @SourcedSF I couldn’t do what we are doing on my own. I’ll be happy to be viewed as a SMB owner because being scrappy and hanging in there is our default.
