Read it again. This is a critique of government/social failure to provide necessary goods. SV’s actions described as “voluntary generosity” and “altruism.” Do you think there is no risk in depending on “voluntary generosity” to keep our society functioning?
Of course there’s risk. There’s also risk not relying on rich successful people. John Rockefeller, JP Morgan and similar titans of that era have bailed out the gov many times. Private sector can move faster than our gov.
