I think @SubstackInc might do a Substack for web.... 
Hey @andrewchen when you looked at the substack investment, what did you think the TAM was? We used a paywall software for content. Its so bad. I’d want someone to do substack but for web but am curious how big the market is.

Not exactly. At least not how it should be. Think New York Times. Ideally the best solution is a great Wordpress plugin.

Information *wants* to be free. The TAM for restricting access to information on the web is running against the natural state progression for the web. However, choosing a specific niche is where the value is, eg Bloomberg for financial markets. Good luck though.

I agree with the second part. But it goes against the first. In the future I think most Americans will pay for wed based content.

If you read the original a16z announcement you can get a feel for it. I’m thinking it’s an alternative to the media industry (as opposed to something specific like paywall software)

Yes. But substack only limits some growth features. For example, have web based paywall content allows for sharing or search traffic which then converts to paid.
