I’m incredibly interested in the idea of starting companies that you intend to own and grow forever vs selling in 7-15 years after starting. For the people who’ve sold as well as the people who’ve grown businesses over decades, what’s your experience? Any regrets?

Was going to mention that :) We’ve never had a firm offer TBH and haven’t spent much time soliciting one. In 2009, we did have a big company license our technology instead of acquiring us. They probably could have bought the whole company for 10% of what they ended up paying us.

That was both a boon and a bane. A lot of our roadmap and strategies were dominated by them... but it was the equivalent of multiple rounds of funding so can’t complain. We finally took VC in 2018 after years of bootstrapping.
