I’m interested in buying an older car as a toy. Something reliable enough to drive regularly and not worry. Am thinking a late 90s Porsche. What do you suggest?

993 911 is a collectors item now and hold their price. The generation just after it, the 996 is the least liked, so they’re a bargain. I think they’re still cool though. Probably lowest prices they’ll ever be now.

Years ago a co-worker of mine had a Porsche made in the 90s and it was a maintenance hog.

E36 BMW M3 are also a blast. If you move into the early 2000s the E46 M3 are even more wonderful toys.

I also recommend E46 non M3. My first car was a 330i with the ZHP package and a 6 speed transmission. So much fun. My parents hated it.
