"HR" implies someone who manages benefits. We are seeing Heads of People top priv cos come fr non-"HR" backgrounds (Sales, Marketing, Product); great athletes who understand talent, culture, performance, + hire HR, Recruiting, etc. leads to their team. Ex:https://bit.ly/2M7yM9r

I think it's all the same people, just new names. Chief of people, CX vs customer service...all the same thing but they made it startup-y.

Yeah I guess from our POV the “people” title has broadened the aperture a bit and we are seeing people take on these important leadership roles who most definitely would not if it was simply “HR”

Well, I respect you and what you’ve built. So if the results are good, keep doing it. My opinion is that I think it’s a silly name and furthers this stereotype of startups as fluffy and soft. That said, you e built bigger things than me so wtf do I know.

I don’t think the person necessarily is fluff. But it’s a stereotype along with ping pong tables and growth hackers. They aren’t fluff always and not by definition fluff, but often can be and paint the companies as childish vs professionals.
