Maybe I don't understand the Cali law, but independent contractors should not be a problem. Isn't it about people that are "called" independent contractors, but in fact are employees that work over and over and over at the direction of a company? This has always been illegal
I'm still researching this, but one example that I think is true: if you have a blog, freelancers can't upload 35 or more blogs otherwise they need to be full time because of this law. So, some companies, like @vox, are using California contractors.
