In the 2016 campaign trumped raised $86,749,927 from <$200. I believe it was the most ever from small contributors.

The billions of dollars in free media helped. If Sanders got even 10% of that coverage, his small donations would be mind boggling.

According to NYT, Sanders had ~17% of earned media as Trump in 2016 primary. Interestingly, Bernie spent 228% more on paid media than Trump.
