I'm just a dumb hillbilly but here are a few things about paywall content that I think are true: you can charge more than you think, you should do 100% paid only vs some articles free, some not, and you can be aggressive about marketing. Most publishers aren't doing this now.

Counter point from a coastal elite: Does 100% paid limit your ability to market your exceptional content versus mostly paid and being deliberate with what's free?

I think that's what most people think. But from what I've learned from paid apps and SaaS businesses, you can earn more revenue from charging upfront than giving stuff away. Having a hard paywall and good sales copy gets the curiosity going and gets people to pay.

I need to find the tweet, but @andrewchen did a great thing on things that are consistently true that most people don't do. A few of those things are charging upfront, less design/more copy, and a few other gems.
