Key here is ‘recognized’ contests. Plus, has to be consistent for over 3 yrs. It’d be hard to run own award ceremony, win 3 times, and look legit 
. BUT knowing the requirements in advance incentivizes to engage more in these and design EARLY career in a way to position well!
sure. I just looked at the criteria and identified what points I was lacking and aimed to fulfill those in different ways. but you also need x number of reference letters (I had 10) from others. So if you're a complete fraud, then those references would also be on the line a bit
