I think this is not good at all. My hypothesis why they're not doing hot: they decided to go broad vs niche. Passionate verticals with smaller audiences can make more $$$ than bigger, agnostic audiences.

Quartz's now has 10,000 paying subscribers. At a cost of $99/year, that's only $1m ARR. Their ad business is down 7%. Losses this year are $18m. They were acquired a year ago for $100m. I also think it looks like their website was designed by designers who care a certain look vs successful sales pages with useful copy. Look at their sales page. The product is confusing, page breaks tons of rules for highly converting pageshttps://qz.com/members/
