In all honesty I’m the same. I know it’s statistically a safe way to travel. But the risk seems so binary - safety or crash. I know I’m irrational, but I feel the same way.

Learning how planes, flying, airlines, etc all work. Using flight tracker apps/sites to view the sheer number of flights that went right, particularly those that are similar to mine.

Was going to comment this, I got into flight simulators and learning about planes. It helped a lot, you get to really appreciate how amazing and generally safe planes are.

Flight journal. Once you see the same "scary scenario" happen with each flight you take and nothing happens those triggers become normalized. Also doing more research to give myself ammo in the air: "no amount of turbulence can take down a plane, etc"

I don’t hate it as much as you but I’m not a fan. Podcasts or documentaries to try and take my mind off it. Being tired and sleeping is always the best. Used to be booze but sober for 4 years so now got to roll with it.

I second the learn about airplane aerodynamics and the principles of flight! I have a completely different opinion on air travel than I used to before I knew anything.

Two things: 1. I make sure my affairs are in order. I have great life insurance for my wife and baby boy. Let’s hope it never gets used. 2. If I’m having concern, I usually call someone I love and tell them I’m worried about a plane crash. I let them comfort me. Usually helps.
