One question I'm wondering, and want to know twitter's thoughts: why ever sell your company? If it's growing, even mildly, why not just install great managers and bounce? I used to think selling was the goal. But what's the pros and cons of having your co last forever vs selling?

And what I meant was: if you're feeling like you don't want the business anymore. Hiring people vs selling. And I'm not referring about my company. Just a general question.

For the record: I'm not referring to my company, or any company. Just thinking out loud!

Risk is major part, the company doing well in a good economy is 1 thing, but will it still be doing well in a bad one? The $ now is one thing, the peace of mind is another. Also, maybe selling the company now affords you the $ to work on your next big project or goal

It boils down to the Q: why did you start the business? Did you observe a gap in the market & create a company to fill that need OR did you have a passion for something and build a business around that passion? The latter will probably want to stay involved longer than the former

People sell their business when they think the value received is greater than the value to them. Big companies struggle with nimble innovation - so they let others do that and pick off (gladly pay a premium) for the winners. Selling shifts future risk to someone else. But ...
