People get really mad when I suggest buying a house might not be the best investment of all I can only imagine their reaction when I eventually buy one

No. Because it can be a bad investment financially but you can also still do it just because you want to. Buying a home isn't the best way to make more money. But if you do it because it gives joy/satisfaction and the money doesn't matter, great!

I guess that makes sense. Maybe the advice should be more about prepping to make it also a smart investment option or mitigate the negatives...? Thoughts?
