Nothing will bring out a twitter mob quicker than saying that people should make their own decisions in life...
... EXCEPT saying that people are responsible for themselves in a fundamentally unfair world—that is currently at it’s peak fairness.
I’ve been testing it.

Read The Better Angels of Our Nature. The statement is empirically true but annoying or offensive to anyone with a victimhood mindset.

"victimhood mindset" lol
Tell that to the 40% of people that struggle to afford basic needs. #NumbersDontLiehttps://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2018-08-28/study-40-percent-of-americans-struggle-to-afford-basic-needs …1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
Are iPhones considered a basic need? What % of the 40% just suck with money? "These struggles did not just affect adults with lower incomes, they extended to higher-income families and to families with and without employed members" 40% of people are simply financially illiterate.

I quoted your article. Your worldview doesn't allow for the possibility that many people are financially irresponsible and would benefit from being told the truth. It's patronizing to have low expectations for people; both rich and poor as the article describes the 40%.

He's right. The vast majority of the world has basic needs (food, clean water, and the ability to take a vacation once in a while) covered. This is a great book on the topic: https://www.amazon.com/Factfulness-Reasons-World-Things-Better/dp/1250107814 …

You're saying the vast majority of Americans don't have safe drinking water?

Everyone in the US should have safe water. We already fought for these protections years ago! p.s. I like your weiner story. ;-)
