I paid $5k for it. the .com was like $1m. Another company ended up buying it (I think they went bankrupt since...). http://Trends.co was $4k. I cold emailed the buyer. He said for $25k. I said I'll paypal $4k right now. He said yes. no contract signed, nothing.
From finding http://trends.co to owning it was literally 12 hours. Matter of fact, I think I paid $3k for http://thehustle.co and I threw in a 1 or 2 hour consultation with the owner as he wanted help or something.
My opinion on domain names: they will not break you. they CAN make you. But a bad name won't break you. Don't buy the fancy name. Just buy the cheapest $5 name you can find at first. Then focus on getting sales. Everything else is a distraction and you can fix it later.
