So, instead of asking for layoffs to stop, higher than market salaries, and other things, what about asking for a way to work together to create a very profitable company with profit sharing? Or lower expenses by cutting staff that work on losing projects?
Well, you have to. It's buzzfeed's duty to get as big and valuable as possible. They took outsider money and promised to do everything possible (so long as it's legal) to make SHIT LOADS of cash an a big return for investors. If owning market share does that, then do it.

And on the flip side, employees need to know this. And if they're not down with that, get the fuck off the ride and go work at the St. Louis Post Dispatch where change won't happen as fast.

PD got bought by Lee Enterprise. Lots of changes there right now. But to your point, do buzzfeed employees make more than local papers? Do you think they should? If so I agree. They are helping grow that market share and ROI so they should be paid according to value gained.
